~~ok. so I made that up.~~
but it works for me, and maybe it will work for you.
MFP doesn't have a category for it. besides, it's for Me, not the logbook. and probably doesn't burn all that many calories anyway.
but it's not about that. it's not about cardio or strength. not even about Lookin' Good.
it's about flexibility and balance. and also about reconnecting the body with the head. and sometimes it is a refreshing break from thinkingthinkingthinking. it's about focus.
~~so anyway~~
I've attended a few tai chi classes. would love to go every day, but it only happens twice a week, and it is over 40 miles round trip....and both time and energy consuming. and gas is expensive. and Any excuse is a good excuse if I'm looking for one. but I loved the class. I will be going back.
but, since tai chi class isn't always available, I do it myself. it's sorta like slo-mo dancing, sorta like tai chi, sorta like a moving meditation if I do it right.
and here's how, in case you are interested. or facing big numbers. .
1. slow music. r-e-a-l-l-y slow music. (like Deva Primal on Pandora)
2. start at the feet and work all the way to the top. THINK with your toe, etc. BE there. don't just move, BE the move.
3. move everything moveable. stretch anything stretchable. rotate everything rotatable. and move it with the music.
4. you're only as old as your backbone. think every vertebra. do a vertical wave from the ground up. and sideways. (****Note: don't do this in public.... unless you're getting paid for it.***) and remember: you're only as old as your backbone.
so that's mai tai chi. tai chi with a twist. tai chi for loners. tai chi with tunes. feel free to make up your own.
dance like nobody's watching 'cause nobody is.
